Afterword

Hello, my name is Kagami Yuu. It’s been a while, or perhaps, it’s a pleasure to meet you for the first time. Following my previous work, a “little sister story,” this new work is a “maid story.” It might seem like I’m just churning out works that are blatantly my hobbies, but that’s exactly right. For an author like Kagami Yuu, it’s rarer to find a work where a maid outfit doesn’t appear. I’ve always dreamed of someday publishing a maid story. This time, that dream has come true with Dengeki Bunko, and I’m having the time of my life with it!

That being said, this work actually went through quite a number of twists and turns. At first, it was meant to be a maid harem story. I thought having lots of maids would be more glamorous, and I’m a fan of harems myself. I even finished writing the entire thing once, and while that version was also interesting, I felt something was missing. After much deliberation, the beautiful yet mysterious maid, Sayaka-san, was born (I would absolutely love to do a maid harem somewhere, someday).

I was also adamant that I didn’t want a heroine who simply wears a maid outfit. And for that, a noble master who could give orders to the maid was necessary. And so, while depicting the society of modern-day nobles, I would portray the fate of the heroine who became a maid—well, that sounds a bit stiff, doesn’t it? This is a story where I aim to draw the mysterious maid Sayaka-san cutely and hope you’ll also see her drama unfold. I’d be even happier if you also come to like the other heroines: Maritsuji-san from the nobility, Maki who belongs to neither, and Reizen-sensei, an observer for now.

To Higeneko-sama, who handled the illustrations, thank you so much for the wonderful artwork! Sayaka’s design was the first one to come in, and I thought, “This is it!” Normally, I would ask for a few corrections, but I felt it would be a waste if the design were to change because of my opinions. To my editor, thank you as well! I’m truly sorry for making you wait for such a very long time until I was satisfied! But because of that, I believe it has become a better work! I’m doing my best so that you won’t have to wait too long to read the continuation, so I’d be delighted if you would be willing to read that as well!
